Service/program name: Crime Stoppers
Description: Crime Stoppers is a program which involves the public, the media, and the police in the fight against crime. It offers anonymity and cash rewards to persons who furnish information leading to the arrest and the filing of criminal charges against felony crime offenders and to the capture of fugitives.
WHO: The Crime Stoppers' Board of Directors is comprised of concerned citizens of the Kankakee County Area who oversee the operation of the program. Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization and is funded entirely through donations from the public. Contributions are tax-deductible.

Service/program name: Department of Investigations
Description: The Department of Investigations specializes in the investigation of crimes against persons and property. Detectives receive specialized training in the investigation of criminal acts, crime scene processing, and interview and interrogation. Crimes that are investigated by this division include murder, rape, child abuse and burglary. The Investigations Division is also responsible for areas such as: Fugitives List, Evidence Lab, Violent Crimes Task Force, Stolen Vehicles, and KAMEG.

Service/program name: Emergency Management Agency
Description: EMA works closely with surrounding communities and businesses to develop detailed procedures and preparations in the case of an emergency or disaster. Events and activities of the department include: (1) Testing of sirens on the first Tuesday of every month. If your local sirens do not function properly, please call 815.802.7170 to make a report. (2) IPRA - The Illinois Plan for Radiological Accidents. This plan is in association with the Braidwood Nuclear Power Plant to ensure safety in case of a nuclear disaster. The IPRA is graded on 16 objectives by a Federal government team. (3) ESDA sponsors a county-wide drill that includes fire departments, police departments and hospitals. (4) ESDA coordinates with the National Weather Service to notify the public in case of a severe weather alert. (5) LEPC - The Local Emergency Planning Committee works with companies in the local area that deal with hazardous materials. (6) Coordination and training of Kankakee County auxiliaries.

Service/program name: Kankakee Area Metro Enforcement Group (KAMEG)
Description: KAMEG is the abbreviation for the Kankakee Area Metro Enforcement Group. This KAMEG task force is one of 9 MEG groups throughout the state of Illinois and covers the Kankakee, Ford and Iroquois County areas of Illinois. It is a multi-departmental task force involving officers from: City of Kankakee; Kankakee County Sheriff's Department; State of Illinois; Cities of Grant Park, Bourbonnais, Bradley and Manteno; and other county departments. KAMEG operates under a two-prong approach - attacking narcotics on the street level and also an under-cover operation. Controlling drug trafficking comprises a major responsibility of this task force. KAMEG works directly with the DEA, FBI, IRS, Federal Marshalls, US and State Attorney's Office. KAMEG operates one of the few drug labs in Illinois in which drugs can be tested in the inhouse labs.

Service/program name: Sheriff's Patrol Division
Description: Our Patrol Division, directed by Commander Timothy W. Jones is busy 24 hours a day 7 days a week with many units patrolling rural areas simultaneously that do not have their own active police departments. They are responsible for: Protection of Life & Property; Prevention of Crime; Apprehension of Criminals; Preservation of Public Peace; Maintenance of Social Order; and Enforcement of Laws. Other duties of the department include:
COURT HOUSE SECURITY (Officers are currently assigned inside the court house for security purposes);
TRAFFIC UNIT (Deputy Sheriff's assigned to the traffic unit are trained and specialize in the enforcement of DUI Laws, Seat Belt & Child Restraint Use, Speed Limit Enforcement, Traffic Crash Investigation, and Traffic Crash Reconstruction. The Traffic Unit also provides the public with safety information, training, and tips for traffic safety.); and K-9 UNIT.
