Description: Food boxes are provided to individuals and families who need food to tide them over in emergency situations. This service is available once a month. Emergency food is available Monday-Friday from 9-4 p.m.

Service/program name: Housing Resources
Description: People facing a housing crisis can contact us for triage and assessment, short-term shelter vouchers, and rapid re-housing services. Call or stop by to speak with a case manager who will assess the specific needs of the individual in crisis and direct that person to the appropriate resources. Some of the resources available include short term shelter vouchers, strengths-based case management, access to a variety of housing remedies, SOAR services for the chronically homeless, counseling, advocacy,and referrals as appropriate.

Description: A small closet is available with clothing, pillows, blankets, and toiletry items while supplies last.

Description: Tuesday and Thursday from 1-4pm, a pantry is available to the people of the community for use once per month.

Description: Disaster services available on call. Provides mobile unit and volunteers to assist victims and workers during a disaster.

Description: The purpose of the Thrift Store is to provide free and low cost clothing and household items to all, regardless of their ability to pay. Provides items for sale. Clothing, furniture, and household items are available. Vouchers for those who can not pay. Store is open 9-4 Monday-Saturday. Donations are accepted during store hours.

Description: The Salvation Army serves a free hot lunch Monday - Friday from noon till 1:00 p.m. The meals are designed to provide a balanced and nutritious meal.

Description: Seasonal programs provide help to those in need. Easter dinner, Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas dinner and baskets, as well as tax preparation assistance is available.

Description: Volunteers are appreciated to assist with serving meals, food pantry, thrift store, seasonal help, office help, janitorial help, or canteen emergency disaster relief help. Opportunities are arranged to fit schedules and interests. Volunteer ministry provides opportunities for individuals and groups to volunteer their time and talents.

Description: The Pathway of Hope initiative provides individualized services to families with children who desire to take action to break the cycle of crisis and vulnerability that repeats generation after generation. It seeks to address the root causes of poverty in addition to The Army’s history of compassionate serving. By helping families overcome challenges like unemployment, unstable housing, and lack of education, we can lead families down a path toward increased stability and, ultimately, self-sufficiency.

Description: The Salvation Army at 148 N. Harrison, Kankakee, IL offers free help with tax preparation to low-income people earning less than $38,000 annually. Help is available from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Mondaythrough Thursday in February and the same times Monday throughWednesday in March. The free help will continue through April 13. Taxpayers must bring photo ID, copies of W-2s and 1098 and 1099 forms, Social Security numbers for all their dependents, and ideally a copy of last year's return.

Description: Non-custodial parents and single individuals without income can obtain support services, case management, and a monthly cash stipend as they gain work experience, honest feedback on their performance, referrals to educational programs, and connections to living wage employment opportunities.
