Volunteer Recognition and Harold Award
The Community Foundation of Kankakee River Valley and the Pledge for Life Partnership joined the United Way of Kankakee County in celebrating the achievements of outstanding community volunteers at the 29th Annual Kankakee County Volunteer Recognition Luncheon on April 28, 2017 at the Kankakee Country Club. This special event, originally established by the Junior League of Kankakee County in 1989, has been instrumental in recognizing the broad and significant impact of volunteerism in Kankakee County for the past 29 years.
The Pledge for Life Partnership's 2016-2017 Harold Award was awarded to Rebecca McBroom a member of the of the PfL Partnership Board of Directors and an original member of the governing board for KAN-I HELP. She is retirng from a career in early childhood education where she served as the Director for Kankakee County and Kankakee District #111 Head Start Program sites.
The award named after Harold the Giraffe, mascot of the Life Education Center prevention programs, is given to a person who "sticks their neck out" and stands up for youth.
