Sobering lesson about the effects of alcohol
Fifth graders at Manteno Elementary School received a sobering message about the dangers of alcohol on their developing brains from Dr. Kay Pangle, Regional Superintendent of Kankakee – Iroquois County Schools, as part of the National Reach Out Now Teach In event held yesterday in the visiting mobile Life Education Center.
The teach-in was sponsored by the Pledge for Life Partnership in collaboration with the Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Scholastic, Inc. Designed to educate fifth grade students, parents and caregivers about the harmful effects of underage drinking, it was one of several activities sponsored this April by the Partnership during National Alcohol Awareness Month..
Scholastic, Inc. has provided a family resource guide detailing facts about alcohol and highlighting suggestions on how to talk about it to children.
