Definition of Volunteering: “…generally considered an altruistic activity, intended to promote good or improve human quality of life.” (source: Wikipedia)
The Community Foundation of Kankakee River Valley, Pledge for Life Partnership and the United Way of Kankakee County have joined former Junior League members to continuing the legacy of honoring those who exemplify the definition of volunteering. The 24th Annual Kankakee County Volunteer Recognition Luncheon (VRL) continues its legacy. Luncheon arrangements have been made with Kankakee Country Club for Friday, April 20th at 11:30 a.m.
Nominations are being accepted in nine general areas: Arts and Culture, Civic, Religious/Spiritual, Social Service, Education, Environment, Health, Recreation/Sports and includes a special category for youth volunteers, those 21 years of age or younger. At least six Outstanding Volunteers will be selected.
Debi Baron, Event Co-Chair, has worked on this event for a number of years. “Our partner organizations” stated Baron, “recognize the importance and distinct privilege of recognizing and honoring the broad and significant impact of volunteerism in Kankakee County.” This year’s event committee is comprised of volunteers representing all four organizations. “We’re a blend of veterans and new recruits - it’s a great combination!” stated Baron.
The nomination forms have been mailed to various organizations, schools and churches throughout the County. Anyone needing additional information or forms may send an email to email@example.com. Nominations must be received no later than March 9th.
The VRL Committee is looking forward to reviewing the nominations. Jim Riordan, one of the committee veterans says “Each and every year, I’m amazed at the quality and content of the nominations. We are extremely blessed. There are so many people within our community who put forth plenty of time, talent and energy, all in an effort to make someone else’s life better.”
The VRL Committee asks everyone to take a moment and think about those they know who have made a difference in our community – there are many – and nominate them for 2012 Kankakee County Volunteer of the Year.
