Registration Opens for Family Fun-a-thon Events

Registration has opened for several activities being held Sunday, February 19 in conjunction with the Pledge for Life Partnership’s 10th Annual Family Fun-a-thon.

Proceeds from the Fun-a-thon go to benefit the Life Education Centers healthy lifestyle and substance abuse prevention programs. The event will run from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in McHie Arena at Olivet Nazarene University.

Pre-event mini clinics:
Cheerleading Clinics for Kindergarten-8th graders with Avery Harman, cheerleading coach with Bishop McNamara High School. The clinic will run from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. Cost is $15 and includes admittance for the participants to the Family Fun-a-thon which follows.

Karate Clinic for Kindergarten-4th grade boys and girls with instructors from Duane Brumitt’s Tri-Star Martial Arts Academy: This clinic also will run from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. Cost is $15 and includes admission for the participants to the Family Fun-a-thon which follows.

Event activities:
3-On-3 Basketball Tournament for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys and girls: Teams will be divided into two brackets in both the boys and girls divisions. Cost to enter for a team of four is $40, which includes admittance for each team member into the Family Fun-a-thon. Teams will begin playing at noon.

Talent Showcase: This event is open to individuals, families and groups ages 5 to adult... Showcase begins at 2 p.m. Dance entries are not allowed. The entry fee is $5 per person, which includes admittance into the Fun-a-thon for each participant.

Participation is limited and registration is required. Registrations will be taken through January 31. Registrations forms are available at schools in Kankakee and Iroquois counties, at the Pledge for Life Partnership at 189 E. Court Street, Suite 403 in Kankakee, or may be downloaded from the Partnership’s website at www.pledgeforlife.org.

Additional Fun-a-thon activities that do not require pre-registration include mad science demonstrations with ONU Professor Larry Ferren, arts projects with Art Start Studio, a Fun Fair for young children and a Fun-thon Family Challenge for older kids and their parents. Seated massages and manicures also will be provided from cosmetology students from the Kankakee Area Career Center.

Refreshments, including Dominos Pizza, also will be provided. General admission to the Fun-a-thon is $5; children under 3 years old are free. To learn more, call the Pledge for Life Partnership at 936-4606.
