Public Health Official Retires

John Pickering had been the administrator of the Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department since the agency was created in 1980. He retired from the agency on February 29, 2008. He began his career in public health in his native England and later emigrated to the U.S.
Pickering has received many awards for professional and community service including the Community Collaboration Award from the Pledge for Life Partnership of Kankakee and Iroquois counties which was awarded in October of 2008. He has served as the co-chairman of the KAN-I HELP Policy Council.
Pickering will be replaced at the Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department by Douglas Corbett, who has been the Administrator of the Perry County Health Department. He begins his post on March 1.
