Team Registration Opens for Pledge for Life’s
Monday, January 12, 2004
Team registration for the Pledge for Life Partnership’s 8th Annual Family Fun-a-thon to benefit the Life Education Center (LEC) programs will be accepted through February 9.
The Family Fun-a-thon allows schools, church groups and other nonprofit organizations to keep half the money they raise for their group. Remaining proceeds benefit the Life Education Center’s healthy lifestyle and substance abuse prevention programs. The LEC programs serve more than 15,500 Kindergarten through 12th grade students in Kankakee and Iroquois counties annually.
The Family Fun-a-thon will run from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, February 22 in McHie Arena at Olivet Nazarene University.
Teams must be a school, church group or nonprofit organization, registered with the Pledge for Life Partnership and must raise a minimum of $50 in order to split the proceeds. Incentive prizes for team members raising $100 include a free 10 inch pizza from Domino’s; for $50, a t-shirt from the Pledge for Life Partnership; for $25, a tote bag from Premium Specialties; and for $15, a sports water bottle from the I-KAN Regional Office of Education.
The event also is open to the general public. General admittance is $5 per person; children under 3 years old are admitted free. Admission for individual team members who raise a minimum of $10 is waived.
Some of the activities planned include arts and craft instruction, King Music Loves Kids sessions, a walking track, mad science demonstrations, STARLAB tours, a soccer shoot-out, an obstacle course, a pampered parents’ booth, face painting, FAMILY QUEST and more. Refreshments are being provided by Domino’s Pizza and Pepsi Cola.
A 3-ON-3 basketball tournament for girls and boys in grades 5 and 6 and grades 7 and 8 also is planned. Cost to participate in the basketball tournament for a team of four is $40, which includes admittance to the Fun-a-thon. Pre-registration is required.
A talent showcase, which is open to individuals, families or groups of all ages, also is planned. The entry fee is $5 per person, which includes admittance into the Fun-a-thon.
Pre-registration is required and talent is limited to vocal and instrumental performances only.
In addition, a poms and cheerleading clinic for Kindergarten through 8th graders will be held before the event from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in McHie Arena. Cost is $15, which includes admittance to the Fun-a-thon. Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is required.
Deadline to register as a team or for any of the special events is February 9. Proceeds benefit the Life Education Center programs.
