Hope House Teen REACH students place 2nd in
2004 Statewide Youth Fitness and Media Project
The Hope House Teen REACH after school program in Hopkins Park placed second in a statewide Nutrition Youth Media Campaign contest sponsored by the Illinois Department of Human Services.
Students designed a billboard entitled, “Get Healthy Illinois! Eat 5 a Day the Color Way” and presented it March 10 at the judging held at the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield. Judging was based on message accuracy; how well it spoke to youth and its suitability for statewide distribution. Riverside Healthcare and The 4-H Foundation will underwrite the cost of the artwork for display on billboards in Kankakee County. Students also created laminated placemat size reproductions to be used at a local restaurants and a daycare center in Hopkins Park.
The billboard design committee included student committee chairman Jervarius McCoy, students, Troy Holtzelaw, Christine Foster, Joseph Foster, Roger Speed, Dominque Tensley, Tiffany Kizart, Cora Woods, director of Hope House, and Carole Franke, director of youth opportunities for the I-KAN Regional Office of Education.
